Teach you how to easily distinguish between real and fake quartz stones
May 13,2024

Quartz stone countertop is a new technology artificial stone synthesized from small quartz stones, with a variety of colors and the texture and luster of natural stone. Quartz stone is an environmentally friendly and green interior decoration material that is non radioactive, reusable, and widely used in kitchen countertops, washbasins, kitchen and bathroom walls, dining tables, coffee tables, window sills, door frames, and other fields.
The shiny surface of quartz stone has undergone more than 30 complex polishing processes, and even after prolonged use, the surface remains as bright as a newly installed countertop. A true quartz stone countertop has characteristics such as high hardness, strong corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance. Even with sharp tools such as knives and shovels, the surface will not be scratched. It also has excellent corrosion resistance to acid and alkali in the kitchen, and has high-temperature resistance characteristics that cannot be compared to other artificial stone countertops.
The higher the content of quartz and the lower the resin content in quartz, the better the quality, and the closer it is to nature, the less likely it is to deform. When the resin content in quartz is greater than 10%, it cannot be called true quartz. It is particularly important to distinguish the quality of quartz stone countertops and choose genuine quartz stone products among the diverse products. How to distinguish between real and fake quartz stones, become a master in selecting and purchasing, and can be tested based on the characteristics of quartz.
Tip 1: Soak in hydrochloric acid or other substances for testing
In order to maximize profits, some manufacturers will add calcium carbonate to the raw materials of quartz countertops. And calcium carbonate reacts with acid, so if you choose this type of countertop, it is easy for the countertop to change during later use. Therefore, when choosing, you can take a sample and soak it in dilute hydrochloric acid or other acidic liquids. If the product contains calcium carbonate, it will react with the acid.
Tip 2: Test the permeability of pollutants
The surface and internal structure of high-quality quartz stone sheets are equally fine, dense, and uniform, resulting in low water absorption and strong resistance to penetration; However, imitation quartz products with outdated production equipment and technology are often limited to those that appear similar in appearance, but have a loose and porous internal structure, weak impermeability, and strong water absorption and pollution permeability. When making a purchase, you can pour soy sauce onto a quartz stone countertop to check for color bleeding. Poor quality quartz stone countertops will bleed in just one day, while high-quality ones will not.
Tip 3: Use a knife to check the wear resistance
The main component of quartz countertops is silica, which has the highest hardness. Quartz stones on the market are synthesized from quartz crystals and resin, and are generally labeled with a quartz content of about 93%. Therefore, the possibility of fracture is very low and it is also relatively wear-resistant. Fake quartz has a high resin content and a lower surface hardness, making it easy to scratch. When making a purchase, you can use a small knife or other tool to try to scratch on the countertop.
Tip 4: Use fire to check heat resistance
Poor quality quartz resin content is too high, and its heat resistance will also be reduced. Therefore, it is possible to take advantage of this by burning the sample with a lighter, and then checking if there are any traces left on it.
